Pokémon SoulSilver
Platform: DS
Genre: RPG
Playtime: 19:55 to finish Johto, still working on Kanto
I might do another review after I finish the game for good, but IDK. Let’s go.
Gameplay: 7/10 Well…it’s typical Pokémon. Nothing has changed from the other Gen4 games, other than your lead man following behind you, gyms all having puzzles, and the menu changing to be touch screen based, which is very helpful. But all the downsides are still there — HMs taking up space, for example.
Story: 6/10 It’s a remake of Gold/Silver, but with Crystal’s Suicune plot and making the Kimono Girls some special group who calls your version’s mascot legendary for some reason.
Characters: 6/10 Well…you’re a blank slate sooo yeah. Same with your mans. The other main characters — gym leaders, Team Rocket, etc — haven’t changed either.
Graphics: 7.5/10 Same as the other Gen4 games.
Music: 8/10 I’ve always loved the GSC soundtrack, so hearing it upgraded for the DS was awesome. The major battle themes are kickass.
Overall Rating: 7/10
Recommendation: If you loved Gen2 and your cart battery has died, this is great since it adds all the Gen4 improvements. It’s also good if you started playing Pokémon after Gen2 was released and you didn’t want to go back to old GB/C games.
